Nautical tile!
The temperature is finally rising in good ‘ol chilly Edmonton, and if you are like most Edmontonians you shed your parka mid-February in the hope that maybe THIS year it would stop snowing before the May long weekend. After a bit of rain our fair city is starting to look lush and green again and you remember for a brief moment why on earth you live here in the first place.
Although we may be land-locked here in Edmonton, we can still appreciate a good ‘ol nautical theme when we see one! It’s on the runways, it’s in the magazines, and you betcha! It is a home decor must-have.
Nautical themed decor is very en-vogue and we in the tile world would like to give a sailors salute to the land lubbers out there who want to add a splash of the sea to their life.
Short of putting a giant sword fish on your wall there are many chic ways to go nautical without getting to theme-ey. Like this gorgeous under-the-sea kitchen below.
Classic Heath Ceramics Ovals in a stunning aqua glaze paired with modern wood accents and fish-bowl-esque lights tip their hat to the nautical theme while still leaving you with a space that won’t go out of style in a year.
This Ann Sacks mosaic below also says “I like to wear boat-clothes occasionally” without screaming “I buy all my accessories at the local tackle store!” It almost looks like an elegant rope pattern. Throw in some red accent pieces and you’re on your way to nauticaland.
Maybe you are ALL ABOUT the nautical. Maybe you don’t want to be subtle at all! Heck this isn’t a new trend – it’s just resurfaced with a facelift.
If that’s the case then feast your eyes on this adorable staircase
I mean, the rope says it all!
Or perhaps the staircase is a bit too much of a commitment. Why not go for a seahorse doorknob?
I think most of us can agree, you can’t go wrong with a white beach-house feel.
but you can also go fun-and-funky-nautical with a classic modular pattern in sea-greens and blues.
or use more classic chevron pattern like the one from Mosaique Surfaces below
On the other hand, nautical doesn’t have to mean going crazy with the blues and reds – we all know how folks love their neutral beige backdrops!

Maybe add in nautical with pattern rather than colour. Like this wave-esque Ann Sacks tile below
If a home re-design is not in your near future, don’t despair!
Simply paint your nails
Throw on a sweater
and get a-splashin!
